11 Powerful Tips to Stay Motivated as a Real Estate Agent

Staying motivated day in and day out without a boss overlooking your performance can be extremely difficult.

I have broken down 11 easy ways for you to implement and become more motivated every day so your performance grows as well as your bank account.

I’ve Been There – Many Times!

You are not alone.  Everyone has down days, even weeks.  However, with a small daily shift, we can absolutely become more motivated and happier each and every day.  So, don’t get down on yourself if you have had a rough patch.

Things will get better and you will grow so as long as you implement all or even a handful of these powerful tips below.  So let’s get started!

Go All In On Your Morning Routine

This is by far the most powerful routine you can implement to keep you motivated!  I provided you a complete article on The Morning For Real Estate Agents which you can read in detail my exact routine.

I have broken this down into several steps to get you up and running in the morning.  These are listed below but I highly encourage you to hit the link above and read the details of each.  This will tie in well with our topic on keeping you motivated!

The routines below are not time-consuming at all.  You can knock this out each morning in 10-30 minutes.

  • Water In The Face
  • My Coffee
  • Stretch It Out
  • Relax
  • Write It Out
  • Visualize
  • Affirmations
  • Reading
  • Exercise
  • Nutrients

This list may seem long or overwhelming.  But again, read the article above. It will all make sense and it is life changing!

Kill The Music and Listen To Your Guru

So when you get up in the morning, do you have music playing?  Are you in complete silence? Do you have kids running around?

What about when you are driving in your car to the office or headed for the first appointment for the day?

One simple thing I do on my phone…  I will hit YouTube and listen to one of my favorite Gurus like Tony Robbins or Grant Cardone.

Anytime I have any downtime of any sorts I am on YouTube.  Why not? Anything that is entering into your ears into your subconscious is what you are right?  Fill it with the best.

Get Rest and Plenty Of Sleep

Boy oh boy…  Selling real estate you would get some big checks right?  So, there were times where I would be out partying the night before with about 4 hours of sleep.  The next day a disaster. I know many of you reading this right now, know what I am saying.

The next day is brutal and my motivation levels to do anything is dismal.  Maybe save the late nights for vacation as you have a job to do. If I have a tough time sleeping, I will take a natural remedy called Melatonin.

Regardless, a well-rested night of sleep will give you the necessary energy to kick up your motivation!

Hire A Real Estate Coach

motivated real estate agentAs mentioned in our article, What You Must Know Before You Hire A Real Estate Coach, they provide the necessary accountability for you to stay motivated as a real estate agent.

Our coach really gave us a kick in the ass when we were slacking off.  Steve, why the hell are you paying me $1,000 a month? Don’t you want more for you and your family?  What is stopping you?

These were all the types of conversations we would have with our coach when we didn’t hit our numbers.  He did well.  He hit certain buttons that would pump us up and get us back on track!

Keep An Eye On The Prize

This goes hand in hand with Visualization from the first section above on your morning routine.

motivation for realtorsWhy are you doing this and what are you trying to get?  I would say 90% of my goals are revolved around Financial Freedom.  So I have pictures and one-liners that I look at every day to keep me amped up.

These consist of the next real estate flip I am looking to buy, the next cash flow property and maybe the next beach condo I want to live in while fixing it up to flip.

Reflection

Have you ever achieved a goal and felt like it was short lived?  Unfortunately, this is the reality for most people.  We work very hard to achieve this certain goal and when we hit it, we celebrate for a night or two and then the “feeling” wears off.

This is where reflection comes into play.  If you reflect on your past achievements on a regular basis you will become more motivated.  This is a must. It is vital to keep our head up.

Yes, you did sell that $1.2MM property 28 months ago.  And YES! You CAN (I meant) WILL do it again!

Reward Yourself

When I reach my goal of ___________________, I will treat myself to ____________________.

tips for motivated realtorsWhen I get to 25 active listings, I will fly me and the family to Grand Cayman and swim with Stingrays in Stingray City.

Be specific and add this picture or one-liner to your daily visualization journal / board.

I set this as a reward for myself after achieving a set goal.  I had the pic of the blue waters staring at me daily.  Needless to say, I stayed motivated and hit my goal.

By the way, if you haven’t done it, do it.  What a really cool experience. The history behind it is a fisherman would go to this location to clean his catch and discard the guts in the water.  This attracted the Stingrays and the rest is history.

Confront Fear

False Evidence Appearing Real (FEAR)

Why are you talking about fear with motivation?  Well if you don’t confront it, it is hard to stay motivated.  Do you cold call or door knock? Have you called a FSBO and get a Fuck Off response before?

I have and it is painful, in the beginning.  Once you confront the fear of rejection and other fears, then it becomes more like a game.  You become more relaxed, things become more enjoyable and then you know every No brings you closer to your Yes!

Remove The Bullshit

So what kind of bullshit do you have lurking in your personal life?  Whatever it is, it will destroy your motivation for success as a REALTOR.  I have seen it time and time again.  Especially in divorces, death and finances.

Confront these things immediately and figure out a plan to remove or eliminate any bullshit from your life.

Life is so damn short.  So be wise on how much noise and bullshit you are going to put up with.

Motivated.  Not Motivated.  Motivated. Stressed.

We all fall into this trap of being highly excited and motivated to lose a deal and thoughts of being in the gutter.

Use all or some of these tips in this article on a regular basis and the “downs” will affect you much less.

Reset

motivation tips for real estate agentsAnd lastly…  Reset. What do I mean about this?  Have you ever walked a beach at sunset or sunrise?  Sat next to a peaceful lake or a nearby stream? Have you ever taken a walk through some nature trails?  Or cruised through a desert?

How did you feel?

Nature has a powerful effect on the human psyche regardless if you believe it or not.  I make it a priority to get into nature almost every day now. The Universe really gives back to you.

This is one of the reasons why my main goal and achievements was to live on the beach.  It took some time, but I kept my eye on the prize ever since I was about 18 years old.

I actually own several properties on the beach now and will have my feet in the sand sometimes multiple times a day.

So figure it out.  What do you have around you that you can immerse yourself in nature?  Start with taking time for yourself two times a week.  Maybe Monday and Friday mornings.  Go relax and take deep breaths. It’s ok to put the phone down or leave it in your car.

Again this is time for yourself and nothing else.  This will help you to relieve stresses in your life which is an intricate part of keeping a clear head and staying motivated.

This process may even feel a little uncomfortable for you if you are the needy type of person.  Meaning you need to be around people all the time. Go ahead and try it out. What is the worst thing that will happen to you?
